Up close and personal-with my gutters.

Let's just start this out with a quote from my neighbor to sum things up for us.  "I have never seen anyone clean those before."

A few days ago I noticed something.  Our gutters had little trees growing in them.  No, I'm not kidding-you know the helicopter things that fall out of trees?  Well, one of our trees dropped a bazillion (seriously-I counted) of them onto our lawn, roof and any other available surface.  The ones that landed on the roof ended up in the gutters.  Now mix that with 20 year old compost sitting in the gutters and lots of rain and you apparently have the perfect conditions for growing the trees that drop these helicopters.

See the bright green things mixed in the gunk?  That is them.  The tiny trees I mean.  And what you see in this picture is exactly what I spent a couple hours pulling out of our gutters.  All our gutters.  This smelly-slimy-mess.
First I have to show you how much of a safety freak I am... or am not...
This looks safe...right?  Oh boy...
Yes, I am climbing with my $500 camera up the wet ladder to take pictures of this.  See I am a very dedicated blogger.  I keep it real while sharing the story.  See the gutter?  It is full, to the top, growing so much stuff that I can see it from the driveway when I get out of my car...that is how this whole mess started.
Oh shoot-I looked down.  Did I mention I am not a fan of heights or ladders?  This is a great place for me to be...taking pictures...and pulling gunk out of gutter...but not both at the same time.  OK-Focus-We do not want to fall and die on the rocks below-
-See, rocks.  I don't make this stuff up.
Must stop looking down.  STOP IT!

Anyway, I just had to share with you my exciting Saturday.  My gutters are now clean and even hosed out!  Except the one I found one of Kobe's toys stuck in.  That one is still waiting for the hose but it is clean.  That is a story for another day though.
Sorry there are no pictures of the beautiful clean gutters.  I was too wet and smelly after I had finished to get the camera back out!

I remember doing that to our gutters on Dexter-Pinckney Rd but in this house I put gutter helmet on so I did not have to clean the gutters. I found my roof too steep here. Looking forward to seeing you guys up north.

Haha... You should have planted the little trees or given them away as presents! I would have taken one!

Thanks for the laugh! Your hard work was well worth it! Clogged gutters bring on all sorts of issues.
