Frugal Gift Giving: Great Idea or Just Wasting Your Money?

This month I have read post after post about frugal gift giving.  With Christmas in the near (ish :) ) future everyone in the frugal blogsphere is throwing out their suggestions.  I am all for hand made thoughtful gifts BUT one I am not so sure about it the Cookie Mix in a Pretty Jar handmade gift.  I have never given this, and from what I can remember I think I have either never received it or maybe I did just once.

So, I want to know...if you received this would you be happy, even slightly.  Even if it was just from an acquaintance.  To me the way to know if you really like this gift is if you used it.  So, would you use it?  I think I would.  Depending on how new it looked and if it sounded pretty good.

And, would you ever give it?  If so, who is it appropriate to give it to?  Teachers, Neighbors, Aunts???

What do you think?

I love them! I think they are so cute! I'm with you on using it- only if it looked fresh. If nothing else it makes a very cute christmas decoration! :) I think they would be great for neighbors/teachers. I have been thinking about something to do for our neighbor... this had crossed my mind and also homemade fudge. :)

I like them and have used them. I would give them to people who know you. I'm particular on who I would use them from. It must be from a clean house!

Okay, I just read everyone's comments, and I have a question. Don't all the germs cook out when we bake it at such a high temperature???:) Maybe I am clueless, but that is what I always think:). If they did have germs on their hands, once I bake it they will be dead:). I don't know.
I always trusted the homes they came from when my student's gave them to me though. I enjoyed them, really. I will be honest with you though, and tell you that my $50 money gifts were my favorite:) Or the gift cards of course too.

I think the germs bake out alyssa. it is just the thought of the germs that I think grosses other people out.

if i was a teacher I would have loved to money and the gift cards the best too...it is nice especially for teacher who aren't making buckets of money.

that reminds me to think about what to do for KOBE'S TEACHER. I really like her, she comes across as a very green person, simple, live on a farm...they like gift cards too right? :)

You crack me up, Leah. I was actually just chatting with Chris about Kobe's teacher. Mrs. Carpenter right? She is such a sweet lady. She would love gift cards too. She is definitely simple, but if you asked another teacher her favorite restaurant or store, she would love that!!!

Not that my opinion as a guy really matters, but why not just buy a pack of ready to cook nestle cookies and wrap a ribbon around it! Would it really be any different?
