Court

I just wanted to let everyone know that S's social worker, today, the day of the hearing, called me to see what concerns I had called her about a week and a half ago.

I told her I had faxed over a list with dates and events that had me concerned. I faxed one to the social worker, her supervisor & S's lawyer.

I also called her lawyer and told him that S's mom told me that "the uncle" was now living two doors down from them and she was seeing him a lot.

It wouldn't surprise me if I don't hear much today so forgive me if there is no update today because it will only be if I don't get a call.

Tomorrow I should be able to track someone down that will tell me what happened in court today.

We have risked everything, emotionally, to follow God's plan for us-to find our kids through foster care. We trust HIM even if things do not turn out at all like we hope for our first daughter. She is HIS...not ours.

Is there any way that you can go to the court hearings? I always went to the kids' hearings, but I also didn't have to worry about child care because the Booger was in daycare. There were times when I wish I DIDN'T go, but other times when I CLEARLY needed to be there because what was being said in court was like they were talking about a totally different case.

Praying that everything goes well for "S" and that she feels loved and safe no matter where she is.

Tammy, that is one of my huge problems, i would be taking the 3 kids with me and i don't want s anywhere near that court house if they decide to send her home. the only real reason i don't go is that the court hearings are over an hour drive away.

i could find someone to watch the kids but i have always been told i wouldn't be allowed to say anything anyway-were you allowed to talk in court?

thanks cynthia :)

With all of the hearings that I went to, they always asked if anyone else had anything to add. As long as you were involved in the case, they at least listened to what you had to say.

I definitely agree with you about keeping S as far away from that courthouse as possible. The Booger's daddy actually brought him to one of the hearings because he couldn't get a sitter, and the baby was terrified. He threw himself from person to person to get to me.

Fortunately, his dad and I developed a pretty good relationship in the coming months and he actually let my mother watch the Booger on the final court date so he wouldn't have to go through all of that again.

Does S have a GAL or a CASA as well as her attorney? I was always sure to keep the kids' individual advocates and attorneys VERY informed. They are (supposed to be) there solely for the kids, and not any of the parents. If you can't make the hearings, they would be the best advocates at the courthouse for S.

You're all in my thoughts and prayers. Believe me, I know how hard it is.

We are in the same state that you are in. One of us pretty much always goes to court hearings. In our county, children are not allowed in the court room and even if it is a teenager, I have seen them sent out of the courtroom during discussion.

We are not allowed to speak during the hearing, but we have been able to speak with the children's attorney just prior to the case. If the attorney is not visiting you before each hearing, they are not doing their job. MI law requires that the attorney visit the child before each hearing.

If one of us is in the courtroom we don't need to take anyone else's word for what went on. We get info straight without anyone else's interpretation. Also we do not take or pick up kids from their visits ever. So court is the only chance we have had to see the parents and know anything about them.

The whole system disgusts me actually. But Leah, I commend you for risking everything and putting your trust in God for everything! You know this is where you are supposed to be and valleys don't go on forever :). Love ya friend and praying for you extra today!

One of the MAIN reasons that I always try to go to the hearings is that (at least in my cases) the court dates were the ONLY time that EVERYONE involved in the cases was together in one place. I felt like I got more accomplished in the lobby before and after the actual hearing than in the MONTHS prior to the court dates.

Risking along with you. I LOVE this quote.

Delighted to meet you today. I hope you don't mind if I splash around a bit to get to know you. This looks like a refreshing place to slip off my shoes, be me, and drench myself in God's goodness.

Splashing,
Sara

we're only allowed to speak every once in a while. when the judge requests an update.

but i think it's important that the judge sees us there and knows that we have a serious interest in the child.
