What Just Happened?

Today

I woke up to find out that the hot water in the bathtub wouldn't shut off all the way. There was a steady drizzle and Ben didn't have time to fix it before he left for work.

I went to get Lizzy out of bed and there was throw up...every where.

I threw her in the bathtub to clean her up.

I got Kobe to school in time to walk into his class just as the bell rang.

I came home and got the water in the bath tub to shut off.

I cleaned up the vomit.

BUT BEST OF ALL LIZZY'S "DAD" DIDN'T COME TO THE VISIT TODAY!!!!

No screaming.

No crying.

No social workers trying to push a little girl on a man she is scared of.

Today was a VERY good day.

Under those circumstances--Dad not showing up does make for a good day.

I know, I feel bad acting like it is the best thing in the world BUT we are talking about a guy who is NOT the biological dad who she DOESN'T even KNOW, that scares her and is USING her to get at her mom.

I would not say it as bluntly if he was at least her bio dad or something, but when you see all of this...well, I'm over it. "Legalities" aren't going to talk me into liking anyone.

I do feel horrible when bio's don't show but only because sometimes I REALLY don't think these babies should have to be subjected to them over and over again. In the 5 years that we have fostered...there has only been one baby in my house that has gone home successfully. ONE!!! Glad you had a 'good' day :) XOXO

We have done the foster thing for 4 1/2 yrs. Only one of ours went home and we only had him for a week. His teen mom had run away from a good home a hundred miles away taking him with her. He went back home. But the parental rights on all others have been terminated.

We have an almost 4 yr. old that we got at 6 mo. whose visits were so traumatic we will be dealing with the aftermath of those visits for years to come. He would scream and beg us with his eyes to not have to go. (His case worker picked him up and took him for visits. Yes, we did try taking him ourselves to see if there would be less trauma. NOT) We had other people in the DHS building that told us how he screamed there. These horrible visits went on for 18 mo.

In spite of the fact that we all understand that reunification is the stated goal, it is not a reality in the highest percentage of cases. A case worker told us that the in the 5 yrs she worked in that position, she had maybe 5 kids return home. At that time CWs had 25 cases at a time.
