I left off at leaving the agency after meeting Savannah for the first time.
I just have to say, that after I left I could not have felt better about the situation. I was honestly worried that I would meeting this child and feel no connection with them (and far worse to admit) not think they were even cute! Obviously that had not ended up being the case, after seeing Savannah I knew she was supposed to be our first foster child.
Savannah's first foster mom has ended up being a wonderful lady committed to exactly the same thing as I am - doing what is best for this little girl. As promised, I called Cindy that evening to make plans to go to her & Savannah's home Saturday morning to spend more time with her and to chat with Cindy as well. Also, this would be the first time Kobe met Savannah as well.
We showed up Saturday morning at 9:30 am, Cindy had been watching for us and met us outside of her apartment. I was nice to be able to see where Savannah was living, watch her and Kobe play together and spend time with Cindy picking her brain. I tried to ask ever question I could think of from "How do you put her down at bed time?" to "What is her favorite thing to have for dinner?" I only had about an hour to spend there because of another appt that had been planned far before I had ever heard of Savannah, so we left after spending 15 more minutes there then I should have.
Our next plan was for Cindy, her husband and the two girl to come to our house Sunday to get Savannah used to our house. I think my favorite memory of that day was seeing and hearing Savannah walk to the door way of her room at our home and stop and look around and say "wow". Too precious! (yes, I have finally done a little bit of decorating which I have failed to post but will soon).
Everything went well with that visit as well, Cindy and her husband are great people and of course it was wonderful seeing Ben meet Savannah for the first time. It was hard to try to walk the thin line of being excited and being respectful towards the fact that these two people were having to say good-bye to a little girl they had grown to love.
After a little while Cindy told me that she would be too busy Tuesday & Wednesday to move her then and that they were thinking they would drop her off Monday instead. This was a little surprising but exciting, it was neat to not have to wait. So, that was the plan, she would move in Monday morning at 9:30 am.
Monday morning came and, of course, there were a million things I had to do and thought I had to do. I ran to Kroger to hit their sale at 6 am because I did not want a grocery shopping on my to do list after this little girl got to my house. I had no idea how she would react to all this and I didn't want to risk taking her out. Plus, I know I wouldn't have been able to sleep anyway. Then, after that, I jumped in the shower and ran out to do some work things before she came and made it home at about 9:20 am. There is nothing like cutting it close.
It was raining cats and dogs so I opened up the garage so no one would have to stay out in the rain ringing the door bell and also Cindy said she had lots of things of Savannah's to drop of with her so I wanted to make that as easy as possible as well through the garage.
As I was moving some things around Savannah's social worker drove up.
To be continued....
